Fiber optics may also be known as optical fibre. It is made up of thin glass strands which are able to transmit data using equipment that converts the data signal into light. The glass is thin, flexible and strand has a similar diameter to that of human hair, about 100 millimeters (um) or 0.125 millimeters (mm).
